From Dairy Farm to Cross Ranch: The Story of a Colorado Equestrian Property

Today, Cross Ranch is becoming a Colorado equestrian community centered around horses, horsemanship, riding, boarding, and connection. But the story of this property began long before it became an equestrian facility.

A Place Built Around Animals

Long before riders filled the arenas, this property was home to a historic dairy farm. Agriculture was at the center of life here. Caring for livestock, working the land, maintaining the barns, and providing for a family and community required the same qualities that still define ranch life today: hard work, responsibility, patience, and a deep respect for animals. Although the purpose of the property has changed over the years, that connection to animals has never disappeared.

The cows have become horses.

The dairy farm has become an equestrian ranch.

But the heart of the property remains remarkably familiar.

The Boulder Equestrian Center Chapter

In more recent years, the property became home to Boulder Equestrian Center. Boulder Equestrian Center established the property as an equestrian destination, providing a home for horses and riders and creating opportunities for lessons, boarding, camps, training, and community. That chapter is an important part of the property's story. Cross Ranch is not beginning with a blank slate. We are stepping into a place that has already been shaped by generations of agricultural work and years of equestrian use. We are grateful for the people who cared for this property before us and for the equestrian community that called it home.

A New Chapter

Today, the property is entering another chapter as Cross Ranch. Our vision is to build on the history that came before us while creating something distinctly our own. Cross Ranch is being developed as a place where horses come first—a place where horse owners can find a home for their horses, where riders can learn and grow, and where families and the broader Colorado horse community can gather. Our programs include horse boarding, riding lessons, horsemanship, youth programs, Western riding, gymkhana, clinics, events, and opportunities for riders to spend more time with their horses. We want the ranch to be more than a place where horses are kept. We want it to be a place where people learn to horse.

Preserving the Spirit of the Property

One of the things we love about this property is that it doesn't feel like a facility that could be anywhere. Its agricultural roots are part of its character. The barns and open spaces remind us that this was once a working property. The history gives the ranch a sense of place and makes it different from a brand-new equestrian facility built from the ground up. Our goal is not to erase that history, it is to preserve what is valuable about it while giving the property a new purpose. That means caring for the land, caring for the horses, creating opportunities for young people to learn responsibility and confidence. It means giving experienced riders somewhere to continue developing their skills. Finally, it means creating a community where people feel welcome.

A Ranch for the Next Generation

We believe horses have a remarkable ability to teach. They teach patience when things don't go according to plan. They teach responsibility when another living creature depends on you. They teach confidence without arrogance and humility without weakness. And they teach us to slow down.
